Gjinovci: The diaspora holds tightly to an idea of home that no longer exists

He told me, "It feels like I have two pictures in my head — the picture of the past, of houses that were there and aren't anymore, and all these new houses, new places I don't recognize. I feel like a stranger in my own land."

It was a wild kind of casting; we didn't over-prepare people.

I think it's what gives the film its power, this idea that through it we're trying, somehow, to commemorate and repair.
