The application process to join a six month-long human rights based journalism fellowship that will begin in June this year has now opened.
Through the Human Rights Journalism Fellowship, 10 young journalists will receive a mentorship in order to become part of, and lead, the next generation of journalism in Kosovo, one with insightful expertise on the human rights situation in the country and which challenges established social and political narratives that can hold back societal progress.
These 10 journalists will be given specialized training on different issues concerning the human rights situation in Kosovo, as well as in innovative and more creative forms of storytelling with which they will be more capable of reaching different audiences.
Fellows in the program will be expected to produce one in-depth story, in either a written, tv documentary or multimedia format. Applicants to the program must submit a proposal outlining the nature of this in-depth story through the application form below.
Proposals should directly tackle a human rights related issues, including but not limited to: gender equality, communities and youth rights, civic rights, and/or sexual orientation. The issues addressed can be cultural, artistic or intrinsically political, however, they should be characterized by a clear human rights sensitive approach and perspective, and tackle an issue within Kosovo. Priority will be given to issues focusing on the local level and all proposals must have a duration of six months, shorter or longer durations will not be accepted.
To help with the realization of these proposals, each fellow will receive 2,500 euros, and work under the guidance of a professional editor. The proposals can be submitted in either Albanian, English or Serbian, which will all be available as working languages during the fellowship. For more details, please see the application guidelines below.
