Volume UP: Fotis Filippou on advocacy campaigns

By - 11.12.2018

K2.0 brings Amnesty  International Campaigns Director for Europe to Prishtina for public talk.

Fotis Filippou is Deputy Regional Director and Campaigns Director for Europe at Amnesty International, leading the organization’s campaigns in the region. Over the last 12 years he has managed campaigns that have mobilized people around the world to take action that led to changes in policy, as well as people’s lives.

Filippou has led campaigns on several human rights issues, including freedom of expression and the right to peaceful protest, protection of human rights defenders, the rights of refugees and migrants, LGBTIQ people, and minorities such as the Roma. He has trained hundreds of activists and campaigners to use collaborative methods to plan effective, people-powered campaigns.

In Kosovo, the need for social change is pressing, and the means of spreading that message has been given new opportunities by 21st century technology. Human rights advocates and proponents of social change are working on adapting to this evolving process of global creative campaigning, but there are challenges and issues that intermingle in the process of empowerment and effective mass mobilization.

On Dec. 17 at 18:00 at K2.0’s new space, Fotis Filippou will talk about how human rights activists can make use of mass communication techniques and the power of the media to mobilize people in the pleas for justice and positive change.
