Njomzë Arifi, a woman in her twenties, lives her life between her hometown, Gjilan, and Prishtina. She talks about her journey as a young queer woman — a journey defined by the relentless struggle to break free from rejection, restrictive gender expectations and injustice. Njomzë, the sole protagonist of the documentary, shot in 2023, “Who I am, I am who I am,” challenges the narrow, superficial and often hostile definitions of what it means to be a queer woman in Kosovo.
It talks about her everyday life and reveals the many layers of her identity — she is passionate about the piano and singing, dedicated to her jewelry business and committed to her activism for justice.
In her journey towards knowing herself, Njomzë mentions the solidarity found and cultivated in the family, about the importance of society with her fellow activists and above all, about the search for justice and acceptance, for which there is still a lot of work to be done.
