K2.0 commenting principles

By - 06.02.2017

Having your say on K2.0 content.

As a pioneering media organization, Kosovo 2.0 is a passionate defender of the right to free speech. From our blogging roots, we have always sought to give a platform to those who have ideas or simply something that they want to share. We believe that the sharing of ideas, opinions and points of view allows us all to learn from each other and to develop our understanding of issues. We also don’t operate in a vacuum and always welcome feedback on our work.

We recognize that many of the topics we discuss can be deeply sensitive and can invoke strong feelings amongst readers that they want to react to — we always encourage reaction and debate. However, our aim is to ensure that a safe space is created where readers can have reasoned (if sometimes heated) discussions.

In order to ensure that comments are constructive and not destructive, that they further debate and don’t foster hate, the following will always be removed:

  • Hate speech including the use of offensive or derogatory language based on somebody’s ethnicity, religion or beliefs, gender, sexuality, age or disability;
  • Language inciting violence or hatred; and
  • Obscene language (unless being used constructively to further a discussion).

We will also remove comments that:

  • Are spam or advertise a product;
  • Are trolling — deliberately making posts with the sole aim of upsetting others, often off-topic, and not contributing to the discussion; or
  • May put us in legal jeopardy, including laws relating to copyright, defamation, contempt of court, elections, etc.

Personal attacks on our staff, contributors or fellow commenters will not be permitted — comments should relate to the article/issues being discussed.

We reserve the right to remove comments that are not in one of the three languages used by K2.0 (English, Albanian and Serbian).

We reserve the right to edit comments that do not meet our principles or to delete them entirely.

Moderating decisions are inevitably subjective and are at the discretion of K2.0’s editorial staff. In making them, we will apply these guidelines as carefully and consistently as we can but we will not enter into discussion or debate about individual moderation decisions.K

    Hi Editors of Kosovo 2.0 I would like to publish a Op Ed The Euro for Serbia for recognition of Kosovo In the follow up of the EU Balkan Summit it is time to make for the EU offer for lasting peace. The Euro as currency for Serbia is the offer the EU as reward for Serbia recognizing the reality, the Independence of the Republic of Kosovo. Kosovo and Montenegro have had the Euro since 2002 so that is the model and precedent for the offer for Serbia. The timing is perfect as Croatia and Bulgaria join the Eurozone by 2024 so the Euro is the dominant currency in South Eastern Europe so why not accelerate it and unite Europe by the same currency – a more flexible tool than full membership in the Political Union EU. The Dialogue is not working Last week irrational escalation including military mobilization at the Serb and Kosovo border and open threats against NATO and Kosovo by the Serbian President show the obvious: Serbia is negotiating in bad faith and has no intention of a dialogue of equals with an acceptable result for both sides – that is the idea of a dialogue. Serbia under his leadership is not ready for a dialogue, nor for EU or NATO Membership as the political leadership and public opinion favors balancing between the West, Russia and China, NATO is blamed for the 1999 war, EU sanctions against Russian aggression in Ukraine are rejected and so how to join the EU as a political union? Will Serbia accept the Euro for Kosovo deal? Yes it should
 Assume for a moment Alexander Vucic is a serious pro European leader just in a very complicated country between West and East facing complicated choices to smooth over a very controversial decision. Recognition of Kosovo by a vote in Serb Parliament will certainly lead to massive public violence in the streets of Belgrade. People will die in the protests – it will be brutal protests for weeks to come. Remember what happened in Belgrade in February 2008 and in Podgorica and Skopje in October 2008 when Montenegro and Macedonia recognized Kosovo. So what can EU and European partners do to help Alexander Vucic and what offer to make the Serb middle class – most Serbs are reasonable pro Europeans but what is on offer to smooth the pain? EU membership immediately as Alexander Vucic has asked for in several interviews is hard to do even with best will, Serbia is far from it in most foreign policy issues and EU can not compromise so much so fast. The Euro can be done. And it is visible in every single transaction in saving, buying, investing, trading, in each price in the daily language and it is such a powerful and visible tool of Europe in daily life second to nothing else we could possible offer. Many Serbs are pro Europeans, rational and serious. If the EU offers the Euro officially by EU Council and EU parliament resolutions this will make an impact and let us make the offer, but will it work? Will Serbia reject the Euro? – Yes it will be rejected
 Serbia, run by Alexander Vucic and his mentor Viktor Orban and their common hero – and master Vladimir Putin will sadly not accept such a deal.. A mix of toxic nationalism, hyper patriotism, euroscepticism, and obviously the reluctance to accept the loss of Kosovo will lead Serbia to reject the Euro for peace and recognition of Kosovo. Well fine. So what to do? Euroize Bosnia, Albania, North Macedonia and invite Bosnia and Kosovo to NATO Once Serbia has rejected this deal, the EU and USA have to act fast and decisively. Encourage Albania, North Macedonia and Bosnia to adopt the Euro – a fact that will not go unnoticed by Serb middle class. Invite Kosovo and Bosnia to NATO. EU Candidate Status for Bosnia and Kosovo should be part of the answer as should be fast track EU membership of NATO Allies Albania, North Macedonia and Montenegro in 2024 and Bosnia and Kosovo in 2029. And the offer for Serbia to be renewed every single year in October by EU Council and EP parliament as long as it takes for Serbia to accept it. And yes to freeze EU Candidate status for Serbia same as it for Turkey. As Serbia is a Democracy, Serbia will one day have a Government ready to accept the offer? And we wait and watch and include the Western Balkans 5 and Ukraine and Georgia and Moldova and once all in we wait for European Serbia no matter how many years or decades it will take. And Kosovo, Bosnia and Montenegro will decide as EU and NATO members if Serbia is ready for EU
