From May 2022 to December 2023, Kosovo 2.0 tracked instances of hate speech and divisive narratives in Kosovo by monitoring online media outlets, social media and TV debates. Due to the pandemic and various economic challenges, there have been no printed newspapers in Kosovo since 2020. So instead, K2.0 monitored online media. Throughout this timeframe, 112 occurrences of hate speech were identified, averaging slightly under six incidents per month. The monitoring concentrated on identifying hate speech associated with gender/sexuality, ethnic background and religious beliefs. It is crucial to note that the aim of this monitoring was not to report all incidents that occurred in Kosovo. Instead, it was to focus on representative incidents that were pertinent due to the nature of the content, their reach and influence on public discourse, and the prominence of the individuals involved.
