Call for Applications: Human Rights Journalism Fellowship 2019

By - 07.03.2019

Kosovo 2.0 in partnership with Kosovar Center for Gender Studies, and Center for Equality and Liberty (CEL) launch the second cycle of the 6-month fellowship program.

The application process for the second cycle of the Human Rights Journalism Fellowship program is now open.

After successfully concluding the first cycle of the program with eight resourceful articles on Human Rights, we are now ready to kick off the Fellowship’s second cycle.

K2.0, KCGS and CEL are pleased to invite young journalists to apply, as we seek to engage and empower you to serve the interests of the silent, the marginalized, the divided and the excluded. Through journalism, the program seeks to bring viewpoints and positions that counter the discriminatory traditional norms that place certain societal groups at risk to the mainstream of public discourse.

This year, through the Human Rights Journalism Fellowship, 11 young aspiring journalists will be supported both financially — by receiving 2,500 euros — and through continuous mentoring by assigned professional editors with expertise in human rights.

Participants will be expected to produce one piece of long-form journalism (up to 5,000 words), a short movie/documentary/video (10 to 20 minutes), and/or a photo-essay with a human rights perspective. Throughout a 6-month course, the fellows will work closely with editors, conduct extensive research around their chosen themes, identify stakeholders, interview sources and will, ultimately, finalize their production to be published on our online magazine platform.

The proposals can be submitted in either Albanian, English or Serbian, which will all be working languages during the Fellowship.

Who may apply?

  • Young journalists, independent and/or freelancers, employed or unemployed;
  • Born and living in Kosovo;
  • Between the ages of 18 and 35; and
  • Have at least one year of experience in journalism and/or communications and/or at least two years of education in journalism and/or communications.
